RALEIGH, NC (March 1, 2017) - Upward to Financial Stability, an initiative funded by the North Carolina Council on Developmental Disabilities (NCCDD), will host four Train-The-Trainer programs across North Carolina in March. The sessions will be led by the National Disability Institute (NDI) and The Collaborative.

This free, two-day train-the-trainer event is designed to provide practitioners, service professionals and self-advocates an understanding of how individuals with disabilities can become more self-sufficient, less dependent on benefits and build better a financial future that promotes choice and greater community participation.

Trainings will be held in:
•    Charlotte, NC – March 14-15, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
•    Boone, NC – March 16-17, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
•    Fayetteville, NC – March 21-22, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
•    Raleigh, NC – March 23-24, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Exact locations will be provided upon registration acceptance.

The Upward to Financial Stability training curriculum was created by the National Disability Institute, Inc. with support from the NCCDD. It is specific to North Carolina and is designed to increase access to accurate information about asset building programs that are available for people with disabilities, their families and professionals. The training curriculum includes activities for students to enhance their knowledge of asset building and to learn how to apply the information from the training when providing presentations throughout the community.

Michael Roush of NDI and Donna Gallagher of The Collaborative, as well as North Carolina’s Master Trainers, will lead the sessions.  Training topics include money, access to financial services, credit, housing, Social Security work incentives, self-employment and more.

Participants will receive tools needed to provide the Upward to Financial Stability training to their own organizations and communities. In addition, attendees will meet other service providers and trainers in the areas where the trainings are held.

To register for the event, go to https://ndiinc.formstack.com/forms/nc_training_2017. Only 25 people will be accepted for each of the training sessions. For more information about the sessions, contact Laurie Schaller at [email protected].
