The North Carolina Council on Developmental Disabilities and First in Families North Carolina are hosting a virtual screening of the movie, 6,000 Waiting, a 30-minute documentary produced by the Georgia Council on Developmental Disabilities. The virtual movie screening and panel discussion will take place on April 8, 2021 from 6:30 - 8 PM via Zoom. Registration is required as space is limited.  American Sign Language and CART Captioning will be provided.

When: Thursday, April 8, 2021

Time: 6:30 - 8 PM (EST)

Where: Virtual via Zoom

What: The virtual event will open with a welcome by NCCDD and First in Families North Carolina followed by a performance by Chris Hendricks, local musician and NCCDD Council Policy Coordinator. The movie screening will begin at 6:45 PM. Following the screening, NCCDD will host a panel discuss about the North Carolina Innovations Waiver List, also known as the Registry of Unmet Needs. Panelists will be announced in next week.

6,000 Waiting focuses on "three Georgians with developmental disabilities whose lives are significantly impacted by the staggering lack and complexity of state Medicaid waiver funding. With persistence, courage, and self-determination, they fight to access the resources they desperately need to live life on their own terms." 

Why: The event aims to bring focus on the importance of funding for Medicaid Waivers that allow for people with intellectual and other developmental disabilities live meaningful lives in the community of their choice. In North Carolina, there is a waiting list with over 15,000 individuals waiting for services through the NC Innovations Waiver.

FIF supports individuals and families impacted by Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities (I/DD), Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) or other challenges in all 100 counties of NC to acquire crucial goods and services, meet current goals & plan for the future, and find opportunities to give back to others.
