By Karen Hamilton

Hi. I am Karen Hamilton with Community Enterprises.

Community Enterprises works in partnership with the NC Council on Developmental Disabilities – NC ADA Network initiative to serve as Southeast ADA Center affiliate in North Carolina. The Southeast ADA Center is our regional resource for information, training and guidance on the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

The Southeast ADA Center graciously sponsored me to attend the National ADA Symposium in June 2018. I took part in many great sessions and learned new information about the ADA.

JAN Logo FacebookMy favorite session was about the Job Accommodation Network (JAN for short). I learned about the JAN “Workplace Accommodation Toolkit” that employers and employees with disabilities can use to learn about the most current job accommodation practices. The Toolkit includes several training videos that show “real life” situations of employers and employees with disabilities discussing workplace accommodations. One video involved an employer interviewing a person with autism. JAN plans to release new videos involving people with intellectual disabilities in the next few months.

To learn more about the Job Accommodation Network (JAN for short) visit their website at:

To use the JAN Workplace Accommodation Toolkit visit:

To watch the video “Interviewing an Individual on the Autism Spectrum” and other JAN training videos visit:

The Southeast ADA Center is your regional resource center on the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). To learn more about the ADA, visit the Southeast ADA Center website at www.adasoutheast.org  or call them at 1-800-949-4232 to speak to an ADA specialist.
