DAAS Receives Guardianship Grant

The Division of Aging and Adult Services (DAAS), under the Department of Health and Human Services, was awarded a $75,000 contract by the North Carolina Council on Developmental Disabilities (NCCDD) to establish the Rethinking Guardianship: Building a Case for Less Restrictive Alternatives initiative for the North Carolina disability community.

This initiative will create a long-term, statewide collaborative work group to address innovative alternatives to guardianship. In its work, the group will explore changes needed to the guardianship statutes, policies and practices; collect relevant data to support innovative approaches to guardianship alternatives; and build a knowledge base of best practices. It will also explore what other states are providing as alternatives to guardianship for individuals with intellectual and other developmental disabilities (I/DD).
