Verla Insko Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

Verla InskoCHAPEL HILL, NC, February 15, 2019 -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Verla Clemens Insko with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Ms. Insko has been noted for the achievements, leadership qualities and successes she has accrued in her field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility and prominence in a field are all considered during the selection process.

With more than 40 years of public service and professional experience, Ms. Insko has served in the North Carolina General Assembly since 1997 representing Orange County in House District 24 and House District 56. She has served since 1997 on the Graduate Education Advancement Board of the University of North Carolina and since 1992, under three successive governors, as the Governor's appointee to the North Carolina Council on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities. She is a member of the North Carolina Women's Forum; she holds a Master of Public Education from the University of North Carolina.

An active community leader, Ms. Insko was a member of the North Carolina Sickle Cell Foundation from 1993 to 1996. She served on the Orange County Board of Commissioners from 1990 to 1994. She was chair of the Orange County Women's Center Board of Directors from 1987 to 1990 and the Orange County Democratic Party from 1983 to 1985. Ms. Insko was elected to the Chapel Hill Carrboro Board of Education and served there from1977 to 1985.

Ms. Insko has received many awards for her achievements. A two-time recipient of the Valand Award from the North Carolina Mental Health Association, she was also twice named Legislator of the Year by the National Alliance on Mental Illness. In recognition of her environmental protection work, she received the 2012 Green Tie Legislator of the Year Award from Environment North Carolina and the 2015 Air-keeper Award from Clean Air North Carolina. She received the Kidscope Hero's Award in 2016 and 2017 and in 2018 was named Legislator of the Year by the Early Childhood Education Coalition. She has been featured in numerous honors publications, including multiple editions of Who's Who in American Politics and Who's Who in the South and Southwest.
