My ADA Story: Accommodations That Help Me

Yvonne Bell participates in an ADA Train-the-Trainer workshop in Raleigh in May 2019 I’m a member of the Self Advocates of Mecklenburg County. We discuss the importance of the ADA and equal access for persons with disabilities living in Mecklenburg County. My dad had to advocate for me when I was a child, and I’m now able to advocate for myself and others. I’ve been to Washington, D.C. to advocate for the rights of people with disabilities.
I’m legally blind, and the ADA mandate for reasonable accommodations like large print and audio items makes it easier to read things and participate in my community independently. I can also get things accessible by people with autism such as various items in picture form. I have the right to ask for any accommodations for both disabilities when needed.
